GPP Academy x ReThink HK 2025 – Beyond Carbon: Exploring the Water Cycle, Water-Climate Nexus and Hidden Water Footprints in Sustainability
At our September GPP Academy Workshop held during the ReThink HK Conference, we dived into the often-overlooked yet vital role of water in sustainability — going beyond carbon to explore its deep connections with climate, ecosystems, and daily life.
Alongside Joyce Wong from Better Futures and Basel Kirmani from Turquoise Sustainability, participants explored:
- Hong Kong’s Water Reality — Surprising facts about water consumption and management in Hong Kong;
- The Hidden Web of the Natural Water Cycle — Why water connects not just rivers and oceans, but also soil, plants, and all living beings;
- The Invisible Water Footprint— How hidden water use in food, transport, and technology dominates our daily consumption;
- The Water-Climate Connection — How climate change intensifies water insecurity, impacting ecosystems, agriculture, and communities globally;
- Actionable Insights for Sustainability — Practical ways to rethink water use and integrate it into sustainability strategies!
