Sustainable Office Takeaways: Ditch Disposables with Reusable Containers
24 Nov 2025
For many office workers, purchasing takeaway meals has become a daily habit — yet this convenience often comes at an environmental cost, generating large amounts of single-use packaging waste.
Some of us attempt to reduce this footprint by switching from plastic takeaway containers to alternatives such as compostable options. However, it is crucial to understand that compostable tableware, despite being marketed as eco-friendly, may not be a sustainable solution. Without proper waste separation and dedicated composting facilities, these items mostly end up in landfills alongside conventional plastic disposables.
CBRE, DFI Retail Group, and JLL, our three office tenants at Taikoo Place and Pacific Place, have gone above and beyond to reduce waste from takeout meals by introducing reusable takeaway containers at the office. Their actions set a powerful example, demonstrating that sustainable practices can seamlessly align with operational efficiency.
Partnering with Muuse through the "Muuse for Workplace" service, these companies provide employees with reusable takeaway containers to be borrowed and returned at the office — eliminating disposable food containers and encouraging a true waste-free takeaway culture.

By incorporating small yet practical changes into daily routines, the partnership between Muuse and Swire Properties’ office tenants demonstrates how sustainability can be woven into workplace operations in meaningful and achievable ways.
